IFFI Steering Committee Members arranges a welcome meet to invite the Tamil Film fraternity for their active participation in the Goa Film Festival
The International Film Festival of India happens in Goa between 20th and 28th of November 2019. This festival is being conducted by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry in association with the Entertainment Society of Goa, spearheaded and organized by its Steering Committee Member Ravi Kottarakkara, Secretary, Film Federation of India and South Indian Film Federation of India, who had arranged for a welcome meet in Chennai to invite the Tamil Cinema fraternity.
Since this year happens to be the 50th anniversary of IFFI, this festival assumes larger significance and all requisite steps are being taken to celebrate it in a grandeur fashion. It is in this regard, they have decided to conduct a meeting in all state capitals, to invite all the creative minds for an interaction and discussion to encourage their participation in this festival.
Following Chennai, a similar welcome meet has been planned to take place in the cities Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad and Kolkata, to have a direct interaction with the creative stalwarts of the region.
Mr. Chaithanya Prasad, Additional Director General, Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) who graced the occasion said, “This year’s film festival assumes a distinct and larger significance as it is the 50th year of IFFI. We have increased the movies from 200 to 300 for the occasion by way of increasing the screens. John Bailey, Former Oscar Awards Jury Committee Chairman, has agreed to head the Jury for this festival, along with three noted international talents who will assist him in the process.
All 23 movies that participated in the Indian Panorama will be screened in this festival as well. In addition to that, 25 best movies from the 50 years of IFFI will also get screened on a special screen. Along with the ‘Best Movie of the Festival’ award, a separate award for the ‘Best Movie’ award for each regional language will also be awarded.”
Subhash Pham Dessai, Deputy Chairman, Entertainment Society of Goa, who spoke about the elaborate steps taken by the Government of Goa, in association with the I & B Ministry has to say “A simplified delegate registration process, considerable increase in registration counters, Exemption of registration fees for Film Institute and VisComm students, Free conveyance arrangements to move between the screens, Open Forum and Discussion rooms outside the screens, Fully equipped Travel Desk, Tourism Desk and Guest Relationship Centres have all been put in place, to receive and take care of the delegates. And with all these best arrangements in place, we hope that around 8000 delegates will grace the festival.”
Mr. Chaitanya Prasad and Mr. Subhash Phal Dessai who presided over the welcome meet in Chennai as the representatives of the government, were duly honored by Kattragadda Prasad, President, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce along with the Office bearers and Ravi Kottarakkara, Film Festival Steering Committee Member
IFFI Steering Committee Member Ravi Kottarakkara said, “This is a special festival wherein 20 distinct film personalities will offer ‘Master Class’ to the new and aspiring creative talents which is a boon for them, while it also helps the respective industries to produce new stalwarts. To add, this festival will also introduce a path breaking step by way of special screens for the visually challenged to enjoy the movies. A first in India made possible by the Honorable I & B Minister Prakash Javdekar. I consider this meet, a privilege to thank him for his extraordinary vision towards this special arrangement”.
Actor-Director Parthiepan, Pyramid Natarajan, Kalaipuli Thanu, JSK Sathish, L Suresh, Arulpathi, T Siva, Dhananjeyan, AVM Shanmugam, Rajiv Menon and many others from Tamil Cinema Industry, PV Gangadharan, GT Vijayakumar and others from Kerala Film Industry, C Kalyan, Sarathy along with others from Andhra Film Industry, KCM Chandrasekar, Thomas Desouza and others from Karanataka Film Industry participated in the meeting along with the press and media members of Chennai.
