Chennai: Eminent filmmaker M Padmakumar’s CSR film KAANAL NEER is all set to release in Tamilnadu on 13th September 2019. The film did already win many hearts of prominent people from different walks of life as it depicts the struggles of a homeless woman and her child in the midst of a roaring city.
The lead character is played by Priyanka Nair. Artist Hareesh Peradi also played a vital role in this flick. T S Suresh Babu did the screenplay and Sohan Roy (Founder chairman & CEO of Aries Group of Companies) produced this movie. The film is the world’s first charity film and is made under the CSR films category. The movie also vies for nominations in the Best Picture category at the Oscars.
The complete profit from the movie will be used for the rehabilitation of the landless people and to support women empowerment programs, two of the sensitive topics the movie deals with. KAANAL NEER is based on a feature that appeared in one of the most popular Indian daily about a family that found shelter under a bridge in Kochi, India. Many of the landless people are in search of seeking shelters to protect their women from the city dwellers to avoid the risk of sexual abuse.
The movie also throws light at land struggles that happen in the country which is seldom neglected by the authorities. KAANAL NEER also reflects the red-tapism in India and the failure of the bureaucracy to provide a helping hand to the needy.
