Ruben Ostlund who headed the jury this year selected Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” as the year’s Palme D’Or winner. The award was presented to Justine Triet by the legendary Jane Fonda. If you look back at the illustrious history of the Palme D’Or winners, there are many great directors who have won the award, but Justine Triet is only the third female director to become the recipient of this award. The other two being, Jane Campion who became the first female director to win the award in 1990 for “The Piano” and the second female director to win this award was Julia Ducournau for her film “Titane” in 2021.
Also, our very own Anurag Kashyap made an impeccable presence with his film “Kennedy”. This Sunny Leone starrer was screened alongside Martin Scorsese’s most awaited “Killers of the flower moon” and the fifth Indiana Jones instalment, “Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny”, which were also part of the “Out Of Competition” section.
The Grand Prix went to Jonathan Glazer for “The Zone Of Interest”. This film was an adaptation of Martin Amis’ 2014 novel of the same name. Tran Anh Hung, the Vietnamese-French filmmaker won the best director award for “La Passion de Dodin Bouffant”, starring Juliette Binoche. The award for best screenplay went to Yuji Sakomoto for the Japanese film, Monster. The Turkish star Merve Dizdar won the award for best actress and the best actor award went to the Japanese veteran Koji Yakusho, for the film Perfect Days.
Hollywood heavyweights Michael Douglas and Harrison Ford, each received an honorary Palm D’Or, for their contribution to cinema.
